From convening to continuity.

The Journal carries forward a multi-year IIHA and Fordham initiative that has used events, publications and collaborative projects to ask how design can make humanitarian action more dignified, inclusive and sustainable.

First Design for Humanity Summit

IIHA and IOM brought together more than 350 participants and 40 innovators across humanitarian, design, academic and private-sector practice. The proposition was direct: people affected by crisis deserve more than minimum standards—they deserve dignity, inclusion and durable solutions.

Design in the Time of Displacement

The second Summit moved the conversation through two linked lenses. “From Camps to Communities” considered movement, transition, refuge and permanence. “From Data to Stories” asked how technology and visualisation could document rights, provoke empathy and amplify voices without reducing people to data points.

Casa Azul

Casa Azul is an architectural and research initiative developed by IIHA, IOM and TAMassociati. Its flexible modules adapt existing structures or new spaces into hubs for information, services, culture, learning, rest and exchange with host communities.

It treats beauty and cultural identity as part of an ethical humanitarian response—not as optional decoration. The project was featured in Cooper Hewitt's Designing Peace exhibition.
